Google added a time machine feature to street view which lets you take a virtual trip down memory lane to see how locations have changed over the years. Turn back the clock to as far back as 2007 and watch landmarks being constructed through the years in this new google street view feature.
If you havent been to an area for awhile check with google maps and go to street view to find out if it looks the same way you remember it before you leave the house.

Click the preview image in the pop up.

You will see a preview of the selected date in the pop up.
You can also use the feature for just browsing maps.
If you have location services enabled on your pc the map should show your current location.
How to time travel with google maps.
Find the place you want to explore.
Head to google maps on your pc or laptop.
Open your web browser and type mapsgooglecouk into the url bar.
Click the slider at the bottom of the pop up window and drag it to one of the other available years.
Drag and slide the time slider to the year you want to see.

Without having it as a mobile app it just means you need to do you research beforehand.
Before you get started keep in mind that in order to check out a map over time youll have to be using the downloadable application version of google earth rather than the mobile app.
